Burning Regulations & Permit
2012 BURNING SEASON ONLY
If you burned last year, your permit will be mailed to you.
If you need to obtain a burning permit, you need to come in to the Main Station at
1875 Route 28/Falmouth Road in Centerville, between the hours of 8:00 and 5:00.
If weather conditions are favorable, you will be asked to give your permit number; your number is on your mailing label.

In accordance with the regulations issued by the Southeastern Mass. Pollution Control District regarding open burning, the following applies:
The decision to burn is not made until after 9:30 a.m. each day depending on weather condition. Do not call until after 9:30 a.m. Telephone number for permits is 771-2089 or 771-2471.
Open burning is allowed January 15, 2012 through May 1, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All permit fires shall be out at 4:00 p.m.
The following material IS ALLOWED to be burned:
1. Domestic tree trimmings and pruning
2. Domestic garden preparation
3. Commercial tree trimmings and pruning
4. Maintenance of existing access ways
5. Removal of driftwood from beach and shore areas
The following IS NOT ALLOWED to be burned:
1. Articles during rain, fog or snowing conditions
2. Grass, hay, leaves and pine needles
3. Residential, industrial or commercial land clearing for site or road development
4. Reduction of whole trees and stumps
5. Reduction of material other than natural wood
5. Reduction of construction or demolition materials
Open burning must be accomplished in accordance with the following:
1. Without causing a nuisance
2. With smoke minimizing starters
3. On land proximate to the place of generation of such material or a at a place
specifically designated on the permit
4. At a location greater than 75 feet from any dwelling
5. This permit is valid for the burning season and verbal authorization must be
obtained by phone on the day you wish to burn
6. A responsible person must be in attendance at all times while the fire is burning
Open burning will be allowed only between the hours specified above and under atmospheric conditions specified by the Air Pollution Control District. Adverse meteorological conditions include rainy, foggy or snowy days when smoke would tend to stay on the ground. As the fire danger increases in April, burning permits may be limited from 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon.
Infraction to the above regulations may result in revocation of a permit and cancellation of open burning for the remainder of the open burning season for any violators.
